Mayors were expected to sign the Chicago Climate Charter, marking the way forward for municipal leaders to take climate action into their own hands in the face of federal inaction.
The meeting was attended by 51 Mayors from the US, Canada, Mexico and France, Efe news reported.

Obama and Emanuel, Obama's first chief of staff, are pressing ahead to combat climate change as President Donald Trump is dismantling Obama-era climate policies. "We're on that path and we know our American sisters and brothers are".
"This Charter is a great example of how cities are working together and encouraging one another to aim higher, and it will add momentum to America's progress fighting climate change", said America's Pledge Co-Chair Michael R. Bloomberg and former mayor of New York City.
Barrett said he would be discussing Milwaukee's action on climate change. "As it relates to climate change, we can't afford, as leaders of our respective cities, the absence of leadership and the wrongheadedness of policy by President Trump".
