Unsubstantiated, exaggerated and inaccurate are some of the words the Patriots used to deny a news report of a rift between three of the team's biggest icons.
The New England Patriots power trio of owner Robert Kraft, head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady have been top of the National Football League for nearly two decades. Given the fact that ESPN Insider Adam Schefter was more than adamant the Patriots would never trade Garoppolo, the timing of the trade didn't make sense, especially with the team only receiving a second-round draft pick from the 49ers in exchange. "Players have always made a decision to come or not come on their own", he says now. After previously allowing Guerrero access to the team and facilities, Belichick revoked that access this season. However, this move only led to more of an issue with the team. Guerrero says he wasn't pressuring players to adopt his approach.
Guerrero and Brady's work together has reportedly produced confusion on the team as players don't know whether to work with Brady and Guerrero or the team's medical staff. In the view of many Patriots, it was an example of Guerrero trying to split the organization by turning players against Belichick.
The surprising trade that took place just ahead of the National Football League trade deadline came out of nowhere.
While the future and the legitimacy of this report is unknown, the agent of both Brady and Garoppolo, Don Yee, has given his reaction to it since he knows both quarterbacks involved very well.
"The two quarterbacks were friendly, but Brady - like Joe Montana to Steve Young and Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers - didn't see it as his role to advise Garoppolo, even on matters as trivial as footwork, as nobody had helped him during his climb".
Belichick, Brady and Kraft haven't said anything publicly about divisions within the team.
