It was named Best Motion Picture - Drama, and Frances McDormand won Best Actress, Sam Rockwell nabbed the Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Martin McDonagh bagged the Best Screenplay honour for it.
While it was a big night for streaming video companies, HBO - which has its own, popular subscription-based streaming service - also won big at the ceremony.
The evening began with the normally colorful red carpet transformed into a sea of black gowns as actresses showed solidarity with victims of sexual harassment inside and outside the entertainment industry.
"Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" was the night's surprise big victor, taking home the prize for best film drama. In fact, all of the night's multiple award winners were stories about women: "Lady Bird", "The Shape of Water", "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", and "The Handmaid's Tale".

"Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" was the most honored movie, winning four globes, including Best Motion Picture, Drama.
"It's knowing where the line is and just going over it", the director said.

Going back to Sam Rockwell, you can't really find an actor who is as hard-working and as well-liked among journalists as the Three Billboards co-star... except maybe for Willem Dafoe.
Guillermo del Toro also took home an award in the "Best Director" category for his dark fantasy The Shape of Water, telling the crowd, "Since childhood I've been faithful to monsters".
