Donald Trump is being dragged on Twitter after he appeared to not know numerous words to the National Anthem during his appearance at the College Football Playoff National Championship Game between Alabama and Georgia.
ATLANTA, GA - JANUARY 08: U.S. President Donald Trump on field during the national anthem prior to the CFP National Championship presented by AT&T between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Footage showed Trump mouthing the wrong words as a choir of four harmonised, "at the twilight's last gleaming", and during other segments of The Star-Spangled Banner.
Twitter was quick to take Trump - who has been a vocal critic of football players who do not stand for the National Anthem - to task for appearing to mumble his way through it.
It is also pertinent to mention Trump pushed the national anthem as a partisan issue shortly before the game during a speech to the American Farm Bureau Federation in Tennessee, tweeting, "We want our flag respected - and we want our NATIONAL ANTHEM respected also!"
The president was reportedly greeted with a mixture of cheers and boos while taking the field. President Trump's mental state has already been called into question, and the bad lip sync has been identified by some as proof that the president's mental health is deteriorating.
Trump's anthem fail set off a Twitterstorm of seething sarcasm.
Mocking Trump's recent claim that he is a "stable genius", Jose Sanchez said: "Stable Genius Donald Trump forgot the lyrics to the national anthem".
"The president mouthed what appeared to be some of the words of the National Anthem and didn't mouth others".
Many observers were unimpressed, pointing out that Trump had adopted a position as guardian of the anthem.
