There have always been rumors of foul play surrounding Wood's death. Five years ago, Wagner's attorney issued a statement: "Mr. Wagner has fully cooperated over the last 30 years in the investigation of the accidental drowning of his wife in 1981", his lawyer said at the time.
Actor Robert Wagner is not having the best start to 2018.
The mystery of the death of acclaimed actress Natalie Wood has endured for almost four decades as the investigation has ebbed and flowed like the tides off a California island where her body was found floating on Thanksgiving weekend 1981. Wagner also allegedly refused to turn on the boat's searchlights when Davern made the suggestion.

What Happened to Natalie Wood?
Two years later, Wood divorced Gregson and remarried Wagner.

Wagner has refused to talk with investigators, but is a person of interest "because he was the last one with Natalie Wood". At the time, the couple was on the family's yacht Splendour with Captain Dennis Davern and fellow actor Christopher Walken. This is an acknowledgement of the fact that how Wood ended up in the water is now considered to be unclear.
Several new witnesses have come forward since the case was reopened, including one who described hearing yelling and crashing sounds coming from the couple's stateroom, officials said. Now, according to CBS News, new witnesses say they heard Wood and Wagner arguing the night before and the night of Wood's drowning.
"As the investigation progressed, we've re-created the timeline, and [Wagner] was the last person on the boat with her", Corina said.
Wood, 43, was reported missing from the Splendour at 1:30 a.m. on November 29, 1981. She was wearing a red down jacket and nightgown. Witnesses have said they heard Wood and Wagner arguing the night she went missing.
Investigators initially ruled the death accidental. But the sheriff's department reopened the death investigation in 2011. Wood's death certificate was amended in 2012 to cite "drowning and other undetermined factors" as causes of death.
Corina says he doesn't believe Wagner has told the whole story. "I'd like to thank the witnesses that came forward and reached out to the general public who have firsthand knowledge of that night", Bergner offered. "I think he's constantly changed his story a little bit. And his version of events just don't add up".
Corina also confirmed Wood's body had bruises.
John Corina of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told reporters Monday, "We want to talk with Robert Wagner". "We're closer to understanding what happened". "What he said doesn't really add up to what we found and what we've heard".
