A Business Insider article in September called Porter "a little-known White House aide who has avoided getting caught up in any of the West Wing drama that has plagued the administration for the better part of seven months".
"These outrageous allegations are simply false", Rob said in a statement.
Porter, meanwhile, pushed back strongly on the allegations in the press.
Here's the full statement: "It's incredibly discouraging to see such a vile attack on such a decent man. Shame on any publication that would print this-and shame on the politically motivated, morally bankrupt character assassins that would attempt to sully a man's good name. I am proud to serve alongside him". He is kind and considerate towards all.
White House staff secretaries play an important role in the West Wing, though the position has varied in stature.
Some are wondering if Hicks drafted the statement from Senator Hatch - more on that in a bit. Porter strongly denied all the allegations fielded against him by his former partners.
"I do not know the details of Rob's personal life", he said. My staff loved him and he was a trusted adviser. "I KNOW we are more than the sum of our past circumstances and choices".
Despite helping craft the Violence Against Women Act in 1994 and leading two successful reauthorization efforts, Hatch chose to vote against the signature bill aiming to protect women from domestic abuse in 2012. "I am praying for Rob and those involved".
The White House official said that staffers felt misled about how Porter downplayed the allegations, both to Kelly at the end of the 2017 and to White House Counsel Don McGahn near the beginning of Trump's term.
According to the newspaper, Mr Porter has recently been romantically linked with White House communications director Hope Hicks.
He helped craft Mr Trump's well-received State of the Union address and was credited internally for helping bridge divides in a White House riven by rivalries and for helping more effectively roll out new policy.
In 2005, one of his ex-wives said Porter punched her in the face.
"Up until then, he had always done it in a way that didn't leave marks", Holderness said. Porter has denied their allegations.
The statement also said Porter would delay his departure to "ensure a smooth transition".
"White supremacist rallies, child molesters, domestic abusers ― another moment where the White House is sadly no longer considered a place of the highest standards in the land but rather a place where our national standards are being degraded", Tapper said.
The White House declined to comment on Wednesday when asked about Kelly's knowledge of the allegations against Porter. Rob Portman and chief counsel to Utah Sen.
