Power up the ZenFone, however, and you'll realise it's a completely different device. Asus compared the Zenfone 5 and 5Z's dual-speaker setup to that of the iPhone X's and claimed superior volume and bass response. And Asus is proud that their notch is smaller than the one present on the iPhone X. The display comes with curved edges, and the rear dual camera is also placed similarly as the iPhone X.
The ZenFone 5Z is the big Daddy of them all and packs some very decent specs within it's iPhone X-looking body. The exact pricing and availability have yet to be confirmed, Asus will release the Zenfone 5 Lite next month.
The least of these devices has the most confusing name, as it were: Zenfone Max M1.
The ZenFone 5 will also have a 6.2-inch display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. The device runs on an Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box, on top of that it comes with company's own ZenUI 5.0 skin. But Taiwanese giant Asus will be launching its next-generation ZenFone 5 smartphone series tonight.
Do you loathe Apple but secretly adore the iPhone X? Asus Zenfone 5 offers a DCI-P3 colour gamut and Blue-light eye care filter. Asus only announced price for the 5Z, but said that the Snapdragon 845-endowed phone with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage will start at a pretty-affordable €479, or around $488 without Value-Added Tax. The handset will hit the Indian shelves this year, the company revealed. The primary camera includes a 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 sensor paired with an f/1.8 aperture, 83-degree field of view and a Softlight LED flash. It's planning on outing the ZenFone 5 Lite even earlier in March.
The rear-facing setup uses a 16-megapixel sensor with and another 6-pixel, 120-degree wide angle lens. It sports a fingerprint sensor on the rear panel, capable of unlocking the smartphone in as little as 0.5 seconds. This is created to reduce the effect of age on the battery by adjusting the charging rate depending on how you charge your phone. It supports dual SIM dual standby and comes with basic connectivity options.
The glass back of the phone is pierced by the dual cameras and a fingerprint sensor.
Asus has announced three different variants of the Asus ZenFone 5Z smartphone.
The Zenfone 5 is powered by a newer midrange processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636, with configurations of 4GB RAM/64GB storage and 6GB RAM/64GB of storage. It will come in 4gb and 6GB RAM variants, each with 64GB of onboard storage and will still have the 6.2 inch FHD display with the notch. The front and back are covered with curved glass, which has an nearly velvety coating, and you won't have to worry as much about getting your smartphone dirty with fingerprints, as this material is less susceptible to this than most glass smartphones.
Android Oreo with ZenUI. In terms of storage, the lower RAM variant will come with 32GB of storage while the latter will have 64GB.
There is no escaping the fact the Asus Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5Z both look like the iPhone X. The notch, the screen and the camera placement all scream of Apple's handset, but if you want a device that looks like that and runs Android this may suit.
