The meeting Monday drew protests from a number of university students in front of the foreign ministry in Tehran.
Iran is not allowed to enrich uranium beyond 3.67 percent fissile purity under the deal, a level that is suitable for fuelling some civilian nuclear power stations and far short of the 80-90 percent that is considered weapons grade.
The Tasnim News Agency reported Monday that Le Drian threatened ahead of the visit that Iran must address "international concerns" over its missile program or risk new sanctions.
It's unclear how much of an effect Le Drian's talks will have in Iran, especially as newspapers greeted him Monday with headlines calling him an "impudent guest" and "Trump's Parisian servant".
Still, Le Drian told The Times of Israel he is not "an emissary of Trump", and "there's still a lot of work to do on Iran's missile program".
Iran's atomic authority warned that they could produce highly enriched uranium in just two days, should the United States bow out of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), meant to put a halt to Tehran's atomic ambitions, APA reports quoting sputniknews. 'Pinning the blame on others and repeating outdated scenarios and baseless accusations against others will not help the Bahraini government resolve its problems with its citizens, ' said foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi on the ministry's website.
Iran has refused any re-negotiation or additional clauses, arguing that the United States has already failed to keep up its end of the bargain on the existing accord.
Yukiya Amano said that if the deal "were to fail it would be a great loss for nuclear verification and multilateralism".
That continued with Iran's armed forces spokesman, Gen. Masoud Jazayeri, who this weekend said over the weekend that Tehran would only give up its missiles when the West abandons nuclear arms.
Amano said Iran was implementing its commitments under the deal, which also lifted painful economic sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
If the political track looks tricky, France is hoping its cultural diplomacy can offer a more positive flavour to the trip.
"Annihilation of the U.S. and Europe's nuclear weapons and long-range missiles is the prerequisite for negotiations on Iran's missiles", Jazzayeri said. They also slammed Le Drian's remarks about negotiating the agreement and called for him to officially apologize.
Last year's $5 billion gas exploration deal with French energy giant Total was the biggest in Iran since the nuclear accord, and showed French firms were willing to stand up to pressure from Washington.
