Wall did get to the rim in the dying seconds, but made the weird decision to kick out instead of going all the way, sealing the Wizards' fate. Tomas Satoransky will once again start in Wall's place.
The Sixers romped to a 30-point lead over the Cavs, scoring 78 points by the main break, as Simmons came within two assists of a first-half triple double. "I want them playing free".
Simmons kicked out to Redick for a 3 from the corner that brought Allen Iverson out of his seat and pumping his fist in celebration. The fans haven't changed. They come out and support.
Bogdan Bogdanovic connected on the winning basket with 1.5 seconds remaining to lift visiting Sacramento over Memphis as the Kings won for just the second time in the past seven games. "But it's always been kind of rowdy coming here".
The Sixers 78-point effort was the most they had scored in half since 1992, but it was a tale of two halves as James and the Cavs went about erasing the 23-point halftime margin, dropping 43 points in a devastating third quarter that gave them a sniff. Experience, even on the sidelines with Tyronn Lue (not well respected, but he has been to a couple of Finals already, which has to count for something). Earlier in the season, they got dinged by the Portland Trail Blazers after leading by 22, and 14 entering the fourth quarter. Jeff Green scored 33 points and Kevin Love added 17.
Ben Simmons would finish with 27 points, 15 rebounds and 13 assists as the Sixers would win their 13th straight. All five of Wall's shots in the fourth were jumpers as the Cavaliers wisely denied the drive. James scored nine straight points for the Cavaliers.
Cleveland cut the lead to single digits in the third quarter. He slowly dribbled toward Sixers forward Robert Covington before getting help from a Kyle Korver pick. But before the 76ers could even think, "We did this without Joel Embiid", the Cavaliers roared back to win the second half, 75-54.
Redick made a pair of 3-pointers in the final four minutes. He made the first free throw, but missed the second, forcing him to deliberately miss the third in the hope of an offensive rebound and a score to tie it. Larry Nance Jr had a chance, but his tip in clunked off the rim.
James sunk his first free throw, but was off the mark on his second.
More than anything, though, Friday's victory strengthened the case that the Sixers will be able to make it through the first round without Embiid if that's what it comes to. Maybe in his final season with the Miami Heat, which included playing a #1 seed Indiana Pacers in the conference finals, and his first year with the Heat, when Miami faced Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls; a Bulls team that swept the Heat in the regular season, and had the best record in the National Basketball Association.
In its 111-104 win over the Chicago on Friday night, Boston showed that at the very least it has a remaining group of players eager to step up and contribute to its injury-torn rotation.
