When asked during an interview on ABC News's "This Week" whether Michael Cohen, Trump's personal attorney, had made payments to other women, Giuliani said he did not know of any but acknowledged that this could have happened. "If he didn't anticipate using these funds to assist with these types of third-party payments", Schuman asked rhetorically, "then why did he still have the funds to pay Stormy Daniels if they were intended for some earlier, innocuous objective?"
Giuliani also reiterated that he believes Trump would like to testify if summoned to speak with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, either in an interview or before a grand jury.
"I have no knowledge of that", Giuliani said. Since Trump took office, SNL hasn't been able to come up with comic situations that are any more overblown than what the president and his administration has done in real life.
In April, Trump told a reporter on Air Force One he had no knowledge of the payment to Daniels. We know that Ivanka Trump was on that private plane when they dictated Trump Junior's response to the reports that he had met with that Russian lawyer at Trump Tower.
Later in the interview, Giuliani contradicted his statement to BuzzFeed again, saying that the agreement between Trump and Cohen was "longstanding" rather than something the two established after the election.
Cohen "made payments for the president, or he conducted business for the president", Giuliani said, "which means he had legal fees, monies laid out, and expenditures, which I have on my bills to my clients".
Avenatti knocked Giuliani's explanation that, as a recent addition to Trump's legal team, he is still "getting up to speed" on the details of the Cohen case and the arrangement with Daniels. He also said that the possibility of pardoning Cohen - who is facing scrutiny from federal investigators exploring whether he committed bank fraud and wire fraud - has not been raised. What matters, he said, is that the payment was not in violation of any campaign finance rules because it was made for personal reasons. Stephanopolous immediately put on the screen a photograph of the two together, at which point Giuliani tried to change the subject to Daniels's appearance on "Saturday Night Live".
"Yeah right. Being president is like doing porn - once you do it, it's hard to do anything else", he said. The $130,000 doesn't mean anything.
Daniels (real name Stephanie Clifford) drew applause from the studio audience when she appeared midway through the show's opening skit before she taunted Alec Baldwin's Trump by saying the only way to end the controversy over their alleged affair was for him to resign.
Speaking later to reporters on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews, the president appeared to allude to Giuliani's remarks earlier this week.
STEPHANOPOULOS: You stated it as fact. "I'm going to walk him into a prosecution for perjury like Martha Stewart did?" "They didn't cross my desk as campaign manager", she told CNN's "State of the Union".
