The Celtics advanced to play the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals as they.won 114-112 against the Sixers at the TD Garden in Boston on Wednesday night.
In addition to a young core that includes Embiid, Simmons, Dario Saric, and Markelle Fultz, who missed most of this season due to injury, the Sixers could have up to six picks in the 2018 National Basketball Association draft, including a lottery selection.
Embiid finished the game with 27 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists while shooting 9-of-18 from the field, while Simmons was behind him with 18 points, eight rebounds, and six assists while shooting 8-of-15 from the field. The center recalled the conversations while speaking to the media afterward.
"Me and Ben, we have a lot of room to grow", Embiid said. "And it'll be a lot easier for us to come in and get games done and not put ourselves in a hole like we did. We're going to be fine".
While speaking with reporters after the game, Embiid compared himself and Ben Simmons to Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, noting that the former Oklahoma City Thunder teammates struggled in their first season together. We definitely have more to show.
"I feel like this season was kind of like a success", Embiid said.
"I'm excited to learn from this stuff, because I felt like we had a pretty good chance", the big man continued, "but you've just gotta learn from it and we're gonna be fine". We even saw that in the final two games of the series.
It may take some time for Philadelphia fans to get over this series loss, but hopefully they realize the potential surrounding this team for years to come. "I feel like I had a lot more to go".
Embiid is right. Should the pair stay healthy and should the Sixers continue to build on their success in the right way, the Sixers should have a bright, competitive future.
