Today Marvel Studios' AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR has become the biggest superhero movie of all time within the United Kingdom and Ireland with an estimated total box office of £60M after its third weekend of release. That's enough to become the fifth-highest grossing movie of all time, passing by Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Black Panther, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Furious 7, and the former king of the superhero box office, the original Marvel's The Avengers.
Internationally, however, is where Infinity War made the most noise this weekend as it debuted in China and delivered an estimated $200 million, the second largest debut in the market ever based on local currency.
Do you think Avengers: Infinity War can reach $2 billion? On Saturday, it became the second-fastest film to cross the US$500 million mark at the domestic box office. Unlike normal superhero movies, Avengers Infinity War treads on a different path with (SPOILER ALERT BEGINS) the villains getting the upper hand over the heroes and emerging victorious (SPOILER ENDS). Marvel and Disney have high hopes for the movie's prospects in China.
Its gross is massive and record-breaking, yet the question must be asked, will Avengers: Infinity War be able to turn a profit in theaters?
"Avengers: Infinity War" features over a dozen superheroes, who come together to save the universe from their might opponent, Thanos.
Two mom-led opening releases got a Mother's Day boost.
Gillian Jacobs, Maya Rudolph, Adria Arjona, Debby Ryan, Jessie Ennis, Jacki Weaver, Stephen Root, Jimmy O. Yang, Luke Benward, Shannon Purser, Heidi Gardner, Nat Faxon, Sarah Baker, and Chris Parnell also star in Life of the Party, which was co-written by McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone, who also directed the film.
That was better than the critical mauling received by Universal Pictures' "Breaking In", which generated $16.5 million against a forecast of $15 million from Box Office Pro.
