Raikkonen finished down in fourth, however, almost half a second off pole and three tenths behind teammate Sebastian Vettel.
Raikkonen conceded the supersoft tyres, which have given teams a headache this weekend, continued to pose a challenge for Ferrari.
"In 2009, we went, 'Let's go less aerodynamics and better racing, ' and in fact I think it didn't change too much", Vettel said.
"The mistake this morning was a costly one and I missed the final hour of the session because of it", Ricciardo said.
"They have been changed a bit, the tyres, for whatever reason".
"It wasn't bad but we needed more laps". "It is going to be relatively close between the top three teams but I can't really say who is quickest at the moment".
"I think overall the tyres this weekend are different". We're not engineers, but we know exactly what's going on with the cars during the racing. Lewis had a very good qualifying and, for us, as Lewis said, it's a ideal result for us and hopefully we can continue like this tomorrow. "I'm looking forward to the Spanish Grand Prix and hope the people will enjoy it". 2017 onwards, the cars have become much faster and much wider, but this had made the cars hard to overtake on the circuit. At that point, I was in a position where I had nothing to lose, so we made a decision to try something else. The teams spend a lot of time testing here in pre-season, so they know it better than the backs of their hands. "I didn't think that way but when I got back to the factory and they showed me the race traces, I actually had really good pace through the race".
"It is a constant learning process but these tires they seem to have a small working window whether they give us more rubber or less rubber they appear to be a lot harder than past year even though they went softer". With the laps we put in I thought we would be more like a couple of tenths from pole, not six or seven, as our vehicle didn't feel too bad which is a little frustrating. "We should be at least as fast as we are this year but just making racing better".
"I mean we are drivers", said Vettel, "that's not to say that we know everything, we don't anything about engineering the vehicle but we know how the cars feel, how to drive the cars". Unfortunately, very often there is a meeting and they don't come to it. I think that is because the working range is far narrower than it was previous year, so you give it everything on an out lap and you still don't have your tires in the window and they heat the tires up in the blankets.
Daniel Ricciardo: "I really think we got the most out of the auto this afternoon".
