The downside is that the new noise-cancellation and mildly water resistance headphones will not be available till next year according to Bloomberg.
The firm could also add more biometric sensors to the AirPods, that would allow for similar heart-rate monitoring used on the Apple Watch. A new report coming from Bloomberg now talks about a couple of new features that one can expect from the upcoming wireless earphones.
Apple was trying to increase the range in which AirPods worked away from an iPhone or iPad, they said. Unfortunately, it might not be possible to give them Ingress Protection, but it means that they will be able to keep out water from light rain and perspiration.
The 2019 AirPods will probably be more expensive than the current $159 model. Apple has talked to Tymphany, a Primax Electronics subsidiary, about working with them to make the headphones; however, production has not started and the deal is not finalized. They were originally scheduled to arrive by the end of 2018 but development challenges pushed back release.
Apple is pumping resources in order to release a premium audio lineup that will comprise up of upgraded AirPods, and not surprisingly, over-ear headphones.
Nevertheless, the AirPods sequel that will come out later this year will only have a new chip and support for hands-free Siri activation. Described as a "higher-end alternative to the company's Beats line", the no doubt costly Apple-branded audio accessories should compete against similarly premium Bose or Sennheiser products.
Apple is also said to be in the process of developing a new version of its HomePod smart speaker. For the next-generation HomePod that's expected to launch next year, the company is looking for other partners. Two years later, Apple bought headphone maker and streaming-music company Beats for $3bn, its largest acquisition. An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment.
