Politico reported shortly before Jordan's appearance Friday night that six of the former wrestlers had spoken to the publication about the alleged abuse.
Michael DiSabato has accused the Ohio Republican, a two-time NCAA wrestling champion at the University of Wisconsin and a former Ohio State assistant coach, of turning a blind eye to allegations against Richard Strauss, who died in 2005.
Dailey corroborated the account of one of those wrestlers, Dunyasha Yetts, who told NBC News that Yetts had protested to Jordan and head coach Russ Hellickson after Strauss tried to pull down his wrestling shorts when Yetts went to see him for a thumb injury. He said he believes Strauss abused 1,000 to 2,000 young athletes.
Ohio State announced in April that it is investigating Strauss' tenure as a team doctor, which lasted from the mid-1970s to the late 1990s.
The email refers to Jordan as "Reverend James - the "squeaky clean" US Congressman from Urbana, who does not recall systemic sex abuse and has never heard agent orange tell a lie and wants to be speaker of the house despite his apparent lack of knowledge of the systemic sex abuse...." "No question in my mind", Trump added in the Thursday comments to reporters aboard Air Force One as they headed out for a Trump campaign rally in Montana. Jim Jordan of knowing about sexual abuse when he was an assistant wrestling coach there.
"This is false", Jordan said.
Jordan also said he'll be contacting Capitol Hill police over "strange" harassing emails that DiSabato had sent him as recently as 4:30 a.m. on July 4.
"It's absolutely untrue the things that have been said about me". Jordan said. "Conversations in the locker room are a lot different than people coming up talking about abuse".
"I think Jim is in a position where he doesn't know what to say now", said DiSabato, blaming Jordan's stance on "terrible advice" from political advisers.
Jordan's spokesman said the Republican congressman is now working with investigators to set up a meeting.
"Mike wrestled with us, was a friend, but something's changed", Jordan told reporters.
The president praised Jordan ― a Trump ally and co-founder of the powerful, conservative House Freedom Caucus ― calling him "an outstanding man".
DiSabato, of Dublin in suburban Columbus, also told the AP that Jordan had direct knowledge of the Strauss allegations.
In an interview with CNN on Wednesday, DiSabato laughed at the notion he was bullying Jordan in any capacity. "We all did", Dailey told NBC News. He recalled an incident where Strauss - whose locker was next to Jordan's - had dressed after a shower to leave the building, but then disrobed and went back in for another one after noticing a favorite athlete entering the shower room.
"I said, 'Yeah. Not for an hour, doc, ' " the former coach says.
