One of the workers in denim shorts starts to hit the customer repeatedly with a broomstick. The women were dissatisfied with the service from the salon and ultimately, refused to pay $5 for a "f**ked up" eyebrow job. On Monday, people gathered to protest the salon and demanded it be shut down.
According to Pix 11, Zhing faces charges of misdemeanor menacing, misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon and harassment, while Thomas faces charges of misdemeanor assault, misdemeanor menacing and harassment.
A skirmish ensued, in which one of the women swung her arms in the employees' direction before she was hit with brooms, leading to a chaotic scene inside the nail salon. The video has so far been viewed more than 720,000 times.
"What I'm here to do right now is to get justice for my 58-year-old mother, my 21-year-old daughter, that had acetone thrown on them and got beat with sticks like they are in the 1960s", Abby Moses, the mother of 21-year-old Christina Thomas-the customer involved in the fracas-said at the protest, according to the Times. "I said, 'Sit down, let me call the police".
About 100 protesters were outside of the nail salon on Monday, NBC New York reports.
The protest happened after video was shared on Facebook Friday night showing a group of women in smocks surrounding a woman as a second woman whacks her with a broom.
Thomas was also arrested and charged with assault, menacing, and harassment.
Prosecutors were reviewing additional evidence and may later alter those charges, the station reported.
Meanwhile, the Facebook page for New Red Apple Nail salon has been flooded with negative reviews and backlash over the incident.
"There is no respect for people in this neighborhood", resident Gavin Gibbs told The New York Daily News.
"Anytime a store does not respect us, we're going to shut it down. We will come, we will picket it and we'll do whatever we have to close your store down".
Live-streamed footage showed stone-faced police officers standing guard as protesters chant, "No more!"
According to News12, the salon closed for the rest of the day.
