Pogba was rumored to be the subject of interest from Barcelona earlier in the summer and it was reported in the press that he was keen to join the Liga Santander champions, partly due to his hard relationship with Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho.
Edwin Van der Sar is still a much-beloved figure amongst United fans and The Mail reports that he is one of Woodward's favoured choices to take up the position.
With players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick out of the equation, Pogba is now United's leader on the pitch. United didn't sign a single player in the summer transfer window after July 3rd, and Mourinho spent a good chunk of the preseason complaining about not getting the support he desires in the transfer market.
'Pogba did his bit on Friday in the 2-1 opening win over Leicester.
Pogba has done little to distance himself from rumours that he was unhappy playing under United manager Jose Mourinho, following up the below cryptic tweet by claiming that "there are things I can not say otherwise I will get fined".
'We'll see which players come out.
'We saw the best of Pogba in the World Cup.
"There's been quite a few at Arsenal, if you think of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott, Kieran Gibbs, Jack Wilshere, and Ross Barkley is another - the talent is there, the potential is there and it's whether they can mature and become a real player".
However, the former Juventus midfielder hinted at an ongoing impasse with Mourinho by stressing: "If you're not happy, you can not give your best", Pogba said.
"Maybe he'll be given a bit more freedom this season, especially with Fred there now and still Matic to come in".
'I've read this week about Pogba wanting to leave before the European transfer deadline at the end of the month and in truth that wouldn't surprise me, ' Shearer said in his column for The Sun.
He even went so far as to say that his job is more as a coach than a manager, and that this transition can be generalized to football at large.
"I always love this club".
