Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that Butler called a players-only meeting on Thursday to express his feelings about his current situation to his teammates.
Oddly enough, the root cause of Minnesota's problem might be the friendship the All-Star forward formed with Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg in Chicago years ago. His impasse with the Timberwolves is now in its fourth week, starting when he told coach Tom Thibodeau before training camp that he wants to be traded. He reportedly met with Butler and attempted to convince him to stay with the Timberwolves, but Butler wouldn't budge and reiterated his desire to be dealt by the season opener.
"It's not fixed", Butler said.
The catch: Minnesota's asking price is a bit too steep, as Fusaro indicates the Wolves would like to get both Eric Gordon and P.J. Tucker back in a deal for Butler, which doesn't quite jive with what the Rockets would want to do.
Butler, in the ESPN interview, insisted money is not his motivation - and indicated he's been unhappy in Minnesota for some time.
"It could be, it could be", Butler said.
Q: Jimmy Butler doesn't make the Heat a contender in the East, let alone in the entire league.
However, after a recent report of a particularly heated Wolves practice from ESPN'S Adrian Wojnarowski, Butler is seeming less and less worth the risk. Either way, man, I love Jimmy.
"I think we had a good practice", Teague said, "but we've got some ways to go". I'm telling you nobody in that locker room is gonna say that he is a bad teammate. I'm just focused on myself, focused on the guys who are here.
So where do we stand in the Jimmy Butler trade saga seven days from opening night?
