UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier acknowledges the cheers of fans as he takes the stage for his weigh-in the night before his Ultimate Fighting Championship bout against Volkan Oezdemir, Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, in Boston.
After some pushing and shoving, the two then cut WWE-esque promos and teased an upcoming match at some point.
Speaking on "Busted Open Radio" recently, Cormier talked about his confrontation with Lesnar. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Brock smiling at me... So many fighters, counted out before the fight, beaten down during it, have found a way to win when winning seemed out of reach. "I didn't know he was going to charge at me as I would've dug my heels into the octagon...throughout this whole time I was like 'Holy shit, I'm having a WrestleMania moment'". "I've been through so much stuff that I hope even my enemies wouldn't have to go through". I didn't like the visual of him pushing me and me flying back like that. "But where people see Derrick Lewis knock out guys and it scares them, it excites me". "I want to be remembered as the best female ever".
While physicality is one of Lesnar's calling cards, talking on the mic is not.
As we've said so many times before, Jon Jones is back.
"Not me. Some times, a couple of times, I had sex the same day as I fought", he added.
"When I didn't fight after I fought Alexander Gustafsson and I was only 36 or 37, I went nine months and I was OK", Cormier said. "It is special when he does so maybe that is why it resonated so well".
Lewis threw several haymakers in the second round with bad intentions, but Cormier slipped the shots and calmly went about taking him back to the floor. It is the greatest, craziest thing and was thinking about how fantastic it was.
Cormier (21-1, 1 no-contest) fights for now as both the UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champ, though his days as a dual champion are numbered no matter the outcome against Lewis.
Lesnar, who held the UFC heavyweight title in 2008, has not competed inside the octagon for two years. "But, I never imagined this was possible", Lewis told us. He barely watches WWE and he works there you know what I am saying?
Daniel Cormier insists he's going to end his career as an active MMA fighter when he turns 40 in five months. That would likely earn Cormier the biggest payday, and why not cash-out on your way out of the fight game? Brock walked into the arena and that place was electric.
Cormier was a bit of a surprise main eventer in a card that has been shuffled because of injuries and the dire need to find a quality main event at MSG.
