"I think you should let me run the country and let you run CNN, " Trump said.
"I don't know that there will be much of an appetite for Democrat lawmakers to spend all of their time, or most of their time or even a fraction of their time investigating, instigating, trying to impeach and subpoena people", said Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway.
Trump called Acosta a "rude, terrible" person. "The way you treat Sarah Huckabee Sanders is frightful and the way you treat other people ... you shouldn't treat people that way".
The same day that President Trump labeled CNN reporter Jim Acosta "a rude, awful person", singer John Legend issued a sharp condemnation about the president himself. The way you treat other people is awful.
CNN's communications team responded to the exchange by condemning Trump and saying they "stand behind" Acosta and his fellow journalists around the country.
Trump said he "never" worries about any record of racist remarks because "I have never used racist remarks".
Some reporters pushed him on whether his campaign rhetoric on migrants from central America was divisive, as well as the Russian Federation investigation - but Mr Trump aggressively pushed back. Then, to push this into full constitutional crisis mode, Trump asked Jeff Sessions to resign (aka fired him) as Attorney General.
"We saw candidates I supported achieve tremendous success last night", Trump said.
When another reporter shouted a question a few minutes later, Trump asked her to sit down.
"What do you make of it?" she asked.
It means the Trump presidency - which already had no free rein despite a Republican-led chamber - will face a significant challenge, setting the tone over the remaining two years.
